Life is great. The last 6 weeks have been especially not so bad, in hindsight. It’s easy to forget all the good when one thing goes south, so I like to remind myself with a round up every now and again.

I will say, I’m sad I was too tired to attend this, the cat show of course:

but I ate plenty of this:

and hung out with this babe:

not to mention this one, who has amazingly been the one constant at every one of my birthdays over like the last 6 years, and 27 was no different, so thanks friend:

an eye in the sky:

and Greenpoint is scaled:

good music is heard:

good music is shot and great projects taken on:

silhouettes are observed:

and this was just cool:

Ridiculous view from my studio last night. One of the best sunsets I’ve seen in NYC.

It may have taken just under a year, but I was finally able to host another rooftop movie night with my studiomates at our great spot in Greenpoint. This time we screened Breakfast on Pluto with the ever-so-entertaining Cillian Murphy and had a pretty good turnout for our summer kickoff. Here are the results of my attempt at shooting in the pitch black of night with my 50mm 1.4, manually focusing on faces in shadows and holding my breath for 1/4th of a second…

I am no longer a victim to the weather. It took me three winters in NYC to finally buy some snow and rain loving shoes and today I think I even actively sought out puddles and more difficult ways of crossing the snow piles just to break in these suckers. I am no longer the person mumbling expletives under her breath as I reach the corner only to find my toes curling in fear of the big mess that awaits to penetrate my shoes- hurrah! So feet, time to play and walk proud!

This weekend was Greenpoint’s second annual Open Studio event which I was thrilled to be a part of. This is the first year I’ve ever had my own studio and at first I didn’t think much of that, but I must say it feels pretty good to have and manage a space that harbors other artists. I’ve also never really hung my work to be on display in recent years so it was interesting to watch people’s reactions and listen to their comments. I also got the opportunity to meet some of the people in my building who were all really great and talented folks. I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to check out much outside of my building since I had to be in my studio, though I did get a chance to check out Nuit Blanche which was quite a sight. Saturday night a few blocks in Greenpoint were transformed into a visual delight with projections and light installations all over the streets and buildings- I took a few shots, but these do no justice to the splendor of witnessing it. Not to mention free absinthe…that was a nice touch. I kept wanting to run to my studio to pick up my proper camera, but sometimes you have to just revel in the moment and rely on your senses and memories to play it all back for you. I look forward to the next installment because this was a definite success…
