A weekend away from the city is what keeps New Yorkers loving the city. Too much of a good thing definitely starts to negate itself, so when a friend mentioned camping out at Fire Island, I jumped at the opportunity to get out of Brooklyn for a few days.
Our journey started at 6 AM friday morning when we headed out to Penn, caught a couple trains, hopped on the Watch Hill ferry, then walked a mile down the beach to set up camp.
By 2 PM we were already obliterated. The trip, the sun, the drinks, the relaxation and the freedom had set in. There wasn’t a soul in sight for a mile in either direction, the beach was ours and we made it known.
We swam, chilled, slept, laughed, joked, explored, canoed, applied sunscreen and bug spray every 15 minutes, saved a beached Skate from death, learned some fun facts from Ranger Mike, burned, scratched, swatted, tanned, survived an overly windy night 2, and once we were over the sand and sun, re-assimilated back into our city lives.
Here are some snaps from the trip, and thanks to Michele for taking a few as well…it’s nice to appear in some photos for once!
